THE MUIDERSLOT – REAL HISTORY

The imposing Muiderslot gives you a taste of real Dutch history. It is part of the Defence Line of Amsterdam and included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Its location at the former Zuiderzee, in the water-rich environments of the river Vecht is breathtaking.
The Muiderslot was built around 1285 by Count Floris V, an ally of the French Court and later of the British King Edward. While hunting with falcons one day in 1296, Floris was captured by his nobles and imprisoned in his own castle….

    There is a direct connection by ferry from Amsterdam to the castle. You can find this connection on the castles website or at http://www.amsterdamboatexcursion.com
    The tour takes you out on the former Zuiderzee, the large sea-inlet that merchantships had to enter to be able to reach Amsterdam in the past centuries. With a stop at the fortress island Pampus (also part of the fortress stretch, protected by Unesco), we bring you to the jetty on the castles own premises. After your visit (2,5 hours) the ferry brings you back to Amsterdam.
